Non-Fungible Token (NFT) Painting among the Public: Logical and Empirical Reflections on the State of Art and Aesthetics
The development of blockchain technology has driven fundamental transformations in contemporary art practices, particularly through the emergence of Non-Fungible Tokens (NFT) that act as a new medium for the representation, ownership, and distribution of digital artworks. This study aims to analyze the paradigm shift in painting influenced by the NFT ecosystem, focusing on the aesthetic dimensions, symbolic values, and social and ecological impacts of art digitization. The method used is a qualitative, desk-based approach to provide an in-depth analysis of the practice and public reception of these changes. The results show that NFT contribute to the democratization of art distribution and expand market access for independent artists, but also pose risks of speculative practices, value manipulation, and environmental sustainability challenges due to blockchain energy consumption. This critical reflection on the meaning of art in the digital age highlights the importance of repositioning ethics and aesthetics in responding to the dynamics of the contemporary visual cultural landscape.
